DIRECTOR
OF FINANCIAL PLANNING
CONVERSE
COLLEGE
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
- The Director of Financial
Planning has responsibility for administering all Federal Title IV student
assistance programs in compliance with current Federal Regulations, for
administering all State of South Carolina assistance programs in
accordance with the regulations governing those programs, for properly
handling scholarships from outside sources, for assisting with
administering Converse College endowed scholarships according to institutional
policies and donor preferences, and for updating information on programs
for the State Approving Agency for Veterans Affairs. The Director works
closely with the Director of Admission, the VP for Finance and
Administration and the VP for Enrollment and Marketing to package aid to
optimize enrollment while controlling the institutional discount according
to approved institutional guidelines. The Director supervises a staff of
two full-time professionals. The Director will from time to time be expected
to make financial aid presentations to various high schools and other
constituencies concerning financial aid.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage annual financial aid
budget consisting of College, State and Federal funds
- Evaluate and determine need
of all traditional and Converse II financial aid applicants
- Establish packaging
procedures for all students in consultation with VP for Finance and
Administration and Dean of Admission
- Provide individual and group
counseling regarding financial aid
- Conduct financial aid
workshops both on and off campus and in local area high schools
- Interpret and determine
applicability of Federal and State regulations and make recommendations
for Converse to maintain compliance with these regulations
- Determine and prepare annual
College budget request for all financial aid funds
- Formulate and make
recommendations for office policies and procedures
- Provide supervision and
training for Assoc. and Asst. to the Director
- Prepare and analyze
statistical data regarding financial aid applicants
- Prepare and submit annual
Fiscal Operations Report and Application for Federal Assistance
- Prepare and submit SC Tuition
Grant, LIFE, Palmetto Fellows and HOPE Scholarship reports and
requests for payment
- Monitor all undergraduate
students for satisfactory academic progress
- Actively prepare for and
participate in annual federal and state audits
- Maintain PowerFaids Computer
Software
- Chair Financial Aid Appeals
Committee
- Monitor Financial Aid
compliance with NCAA Div. II and Carolinas Conference regulations
- Serve as liaison for state
financial aid programs
- Keep abreast of state and
federal regulations by attending annual/semi-annual workshops and training
sessions
- Serve on Admissions,
Retention, Converse II, Study Abroad, and other committees as appointed
- Compliance with the College’s
Service Expectations
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. Five or more years
of increasing experience in the financial aid field required. Excellent
interpersonal, communication, analytical, management, and organizational skills
are required. Computer proficiency required. Familiarity with Title
IV (required) and State of SC (preferred) financial aid regulations.
Experience and working knowledge of PowerFaids and Jenzabar is highly
desirable.
