Derrick, who has served as senior associate director since 2013, will assume his new role Jan. 1, succeeding Ed Miller, who is retiring after serving as director since 1999. As director of student financial aid and scholarships, Derrick will oversee the office that serves more than 32,000 undergraduate and graduate aid recipients on the Columbia campus, disbursing approximately $400 million in need-based and merit funding to worthy students each year. Derrick also will be responsible for participating in enrollment management administration by setting goals and establishing policies and procedures that facilitate enrollment of new students and the retention of continuing students.
Prior to his position as senior associate director, Derrick held several roles within the student financial aid and scholarships office during his 13 years with the university, including associate director, senior assistant director of information resources, information specialist and financial aid counselor.
