Financial Aid Counselor
Job Description: The role of a Financial Aid Counselor is to ensure that
the students are properly funded, packaged, and prepared to start each
semester.
Core Job Functions: Plan, implement, administer/oversee, coordinate, monitor
and evaluate all of the specific programs, services and function of assigned
areas of responsibility, including operating policies, procedures and systems.
Develop and modify programs/services/systems in accordance with institutional
goals and objectives and student needs. Counsel and advise students about
financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs,
indebtedness, money and management and financial planning; individualizes
information to the particular needs and situation of the student. Collect
and/or analyze financial data on students to determine aid eligibility and make
awards within federal, state, and/or institutional guidelines. Evaluate
documentation or information provided by the student and exercises judgment by
making adjustment or revisions to costs, contribution, need or dependency
status as exceptions to the process. Answer questions, inquiries or requests
from students, parents, or guardians in person or in writing regarding
financial aid programs and eligibility.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or 3 years experience in a related
field. Advanced written and oral communication skills. Positive attitude.
Ability to support the goals and mission of the college. Advanced knowledge of
Microsoft Office software. Preferred: Related experience in a higher education
setting. Knowledge of NCAA Division II regulations.
