POSITION TITLE:
Financial Aid Counselor/College Work-Study Coordinator.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Provides financial aid counseling to students and their parents, explains program eligibility criteria,
financial need, and assist with the completion of all financial aid paperwork.
2. Develops and carries out a comprehensive plan to manage, coordinate and maintain financial aid
accountability for the College Work and Campus Service Programs.
3. Manages student caseloads that are selected for federal verification of applicant data. Compares data
on the ISIR record with tax and other data documentation, corrects inaccuracies, reruns the need
analysis, flags the record for reporting changes to the federal central processor.
4. Awards financial aid to students in accordance with federal, state and institutional policies and
guidelines.
5. Assists with the management of the Direct Stafford and Parent Loan (PLUS) programs through the
conducting of loan counseling, exit interview sessions with default loan management for the Direct
Stafford student loan program.
6. Coordinates with area college financial aid personnel to plan and present financial aid information
at local high schools for their “Financial Aid Nights”.
7. Works in cooperation with the SMC Business Office to counsel students and their families regarding
financial aid solutions in an effort to mediate delinquent student accounts.
8. Assist SMC Admissions Office with recruiting duties with local high schools.
9. Contacts area businesses (both for profit and non-profit) to develop job opportunities for students in
the College Work Study Program and also to assist students in finding part-time jobs for those
wishing to work off campus.
10. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
ORGANIZATION RESPONSIBITLIES:
Is accountable to and supervised by the Director of Financial Aid.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education: Bachelors Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
2. Two to three years of experience in financial aid administration or related field in higher education.
Prior experience with EdExpress, EdConnect, and COD is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent
combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
3. Good human relations, strong personality, public presentation and counseling skills.
4. Ability to develop a comprehensive program for the implantation and management of a one hundred
and fifty person student work force and supervisory staff.
5. Ability to work occasional extra evening hours and some weekends as needed.
